2016 was an exciting year for Zopa and it was reflected in our extensive press coverage. It was a year of firsts and milestones for us as we released innovative products offering our customers more choice, formed strong partnerships and continued to grow.
Here’s a recap of what the press said about us:
Profitability and Zopa’s growth
Our growth trajectory attracted interest throughout the year. At the beginning of March, Jaidev Janardana, Zopa’s CEO and Giles Andrews, Zopa’s co-founder and chairman, were interviewed by the Sunday Telegraph for a piece looking at our development ‘Zopa aims for enough growth to stop explaining its name’.
We returned to profitability in September, and Crowdfund Insider covered this news from our CEO’s keynote speech at LendIt: ‘Zopa’s Jaidev Janardana at LendIt Europe: “We Were Profitable in September & We’ll Be Profitable Moving Forward”’.
Banking license announcement and our first Securitisation
‘Peer-to-peer giant Zopa to launch a digital bank’, wrote The Telegraph after our announcement in November. Zopa’s plan to launch a next generation bank was also covered in the Financial Times (Peer-to-peer lenders are blurring into mainstream banks) and the Times, as well as in industry press.
Our capital markets debut also attracted interest, with news coverage in the Financial Times: ‘Debut securitisation for Zopa loans’, AltFi, and the specialist banking press. It also provoked some thoughts about the future of the industry. City AM, for example, mentioned Zopa’s securitisation in a broader piece about Peer-to-Peer securisation ‘P2P securitisation is coming: how the industry is approaching the financial practice’.
More choice for our customers: new products and partnerships
In March, and amidst much excitement, we unveiled our three new lending products: Zopa Classic, Zopa Access and Zopa Plus. The new products were covered widely, for example in The Times and This is Money.
Our new partnerships also sparked interest from the media. Most notably our partnership with Unshackled, announced in May, was featured in the Mirror ‘How to save hundreds on a new phone with one simple trick’ and City AM.
Meanwhile, news from Zopa Towers
Crowdfund Insider and Finextra covered the news that, in July, we welcomed Ronan Benchetrit as our new CTO.
Crowdfund Insider also took an interest in both our relocation to London Bridge ‘Zopa Relocates: Moves Into New London Bridge Digs’ and our new branding ‘Zopa Announces Rebranding & Unveils New Website Look’.
